This guide explains how to set the default speaking language for Gen 2 Newo Voice agents.
How language control works
Your agent’s default language is determined by the Agent Tone of Voice and Style attribute. Setting this field to specify the main language ensures all spoken responses begin in that language.
Change the language
In the Portal, go to Settings.
Use the search field to find the Agent Tone of Voice and Style attribute.
Enter your desired language (see Supported languages) in the recommended format format (see Recommended phrasing).
Click Save and Apply.
Caution
If you include multiple languages without clear rules, it may cause unexpected agent behavior. Always specify a single main language.
Recommended phrasing (copy-ready templates)
For the Agent Tone of Voice and Style attribute, use concise, explicit wording. Keep the structure [tone + pace + language], then [accent (optional)]. For example:
Friendly professional, super welcoming. Speak energetic and fast. Your main language is Dutch (Netherlands).
Friendly professional, super welcoming. Speak energetic and fast. Your main language is German.
Change the language of greeting phrases
Use the search field to find the Voice - Greeting Phrase - Inbound and Chat - Greeting Phrase attributes.
Translate both greeting phrase texts to the primary language you set in the Agent Tone of Voice and Style attribute.
Navigate to the Chat tab on the Settings page.
Translate the Bubble text to your primary language.
Click Save and Apply.
