This guide explains how to enable HIPAA mode to ensure the privacy of patient and client data in your AI Employee interactions. By configuring a specific attribute, you can automate data redaction in reports to meet compliance standards.
Enable HIPAA mode
To activate HIPAA compliance features, you must modify a specific attribute within the Builder.
Open the Builder for a specific customer.
Navigate to the Attributes page.
Toggle Show Hidden to the on position.
Search for "HIPAA" to locate the attribute
project_attributes_setting_hipaa_mode_enabled.Set the value to
True.Click Save and Publish All.
Reporting behavior
HIPAA mode automatically modifies the standard reporting mechanism to prevent PII (Personally Identifiable Information) leakage. The AI Employee will still send SMS and email reports to the business (e.g., a manager), but all sensitive fields will be redacted automatically.
Compliance requirements
While the system automates redaction and deletion within the Newo.ai platform, you must ensure external integrations do not compromise compliance.
π¨ WARNING
The HIPAA mode setting does not automatically disconnect external integrations. To remain compliant, you must manually stop recording sessions in Google Sheets or any other external storage integration.

In this mode, PII is automatically replaced with [REDACTED] placeholders.
