The project_business_industry attribute determines which industry-specific instructions, scenarios, and attributes are loaded for the AI Employee. This article explains why this attribute should not be changed after initial setup and what to do if the industry is incorrect.
π¨ WARNING
Do not change the Industry attribute after the AI Employee has been created. Changing it can cause incorrect behavior, missing data, or inaccurate responses. If the industry is wrong, follow the process described below to create a new AI Employee with the correct industry.
What the industry attribute controls
The industry value (project_business_industry) is set during initial AI Employee creation and controls:
Industry-specific attributes: Each industry loads a unique set of attributes. Restaurants get menu and reservation attributes; dental practices get patient and procedure attributes; sales gets lead qualification attributes.
Scenarios and procedures: Built-in conversation flows are tailored to the industry, covering thousands of corner cases specific to each vertical.
Booking behavior: Some industries enable appointment booking by default (e.g., restaurant), while others disable it (e.g., sales).
SMS and email templates: Message content and structure vary by industry.
Agent greeting and style: The agent's personality and greeting approach are optimized for each industry.

Why the industry should not be changed
Changing the industry attribute after creation causes several problems:
Attribute mismatch: Existing attribute values are tied to the original industry. Switching industries does not migrate data to the new industry's attributes, leaving critical fields empty and orphaning old values.
Broken skill references: Industry-specific skills reference specific attributes. A restaurant scenario that references the menu attribute will break if the industry is switched to dental.
Integration conflicts: Different industries have different integration requirements (e.g., reservation systems vs. appointment systems). Switching does not reconfigure these.
Default value drift: Each industry sets different defaults for features. Switching the industry value alone does not reset these defaults to match the new industry.
What to do if the industry is incorrect
If the 1-Click Builder assigned the wrong industry, create a new AI Employee with the correct industry using the URL method. Do not change the project_business_industry attribute directly.
For step-by-step instructions, see Incorrect industry categorization.
If the exact industry is not listed, use sales_industry. It is the most general option and suitable for businesses focused on lead capture, inbound sales, or appointment setting.
